Athens City Schools Board of Education appointed three new school leaders at their meeting Thursday night.  

The board appointed Mr. Nelson Brown to serve as principal for the rapidly growing Athens Renaissance School.  Serving as the principal for Liberty Middle School in Madison since 2012, Brown earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Athens State University, his Master of Science from the University of West Alabama, and his Ed. S. from Walden University.  He has worked as an elementary classroom teacher at Heritage in Madison, served as assistant principal and principal of Columbia Elementary, and assistant principal before becoming principal at Liberty.  

Athens Elementary School will be led by Cindy Davis.  Ms. Davis began her career in Florence, serving as a teacher at Riverhill School and Harlan Elementary.  She later became the principal of Riverhill, serving in that position for 12 years.  Since 2009 she has served as the principal at Phil Campbell High School, assistant principal at Sparkman High, and Principal at Moores Mill Intermediate.  For the past two years she has been serving as the principal for the Collegiate American School in Dubai, UAE.

The Athens Board welcomed back former Athens coach and teacher Mr. Kerry Donaldson to serve as the assistant principal at Athens Middle School.  Mr. Donaldson began his career at Athens Middle School in 2004, teaching physical education and serving as an assistant football coach and head coach for the boys basketball team.  He left Athens in in 2012 to serve as an assistant principal at Florence High School.  Mr. Donaldson earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Athens state College and his Master of Arts from the University of North Alabama.  He  holds an Ed.D.  from Samford University.
