This spring was an exciting time for our AHS student athletes. We are proud of their dedication, determination, hard work and accomplishments. They represent our community well on and off the field, and we celebrate them. Here are the highlights from the spring season for our Golden Eagles.

  • Baseball made the second round of state playoffs.
  • Girls basketball made it to the regional finals. Alexis Woods and Tionna Moore made the all-regional team. Alexis Woods made first team all-state and was chosen to play in the north south all-star game.
  • Wrestling finished fifth in the state. Trent Young and Thomas Carter are state champions.
  • Boys soccer made it to the state playoffs. Sean O’Connor was chosen to play in the north south all-star soccer game.
  • Softball finished runner-up in the area and advanced to the north sectionals.
  • Boys golf advanced to sub-state.
  • Ally Williams won sub-state in girls golf and will play at the state competition.
  • Nancy McBay is the new cheerleading coach.
  • Athens had 17 students qualify for state competition in track.
  • Japera Harris, Lavendar Bailey, Karsynn Crutcher and Malaysia Smith are state champs in the 4X100.
  • Caroline Matthews is a National Merit Scholar finalist and student athlete.
